Hi to all GLP members,
Charles and I had been discussing on the permission issues in regards to this website.
However, since this is a place for all members, we will like to get some suggestions and feedbacks on the members the privacy of the information posted.
Thus far, this is the update:

1. We cannot limit section of the web pages to be private.
2. We can turn this wiki to be invitation only site.
3. There is suggestion to create a "Guest" profile for prospective students if this web page is an invitation based site only.

Please give some thoughts about it and get back to us.

Regards,
Johnson

Hi Johnson,

I think that we can look at this being a bit of an open forum. Not many people will discover it, unless really looking. I do not see us discussing anything of too much significance here if it is seen by an outsider. As was noted in class, Blackboard would still be used for things that are class specific.

Maybe we could look at setting up a closed Alumni group? Alumni access can be limited to actual grads, profs, admin and maybe for current students in their final semester?

I think that the wiki is such a nice tool for students both current and prospective and I think that it will lead to the attraction of the best and brightest people. We may have to rethink some ideas like posting old assignments.
Do you find this valuable?

Thank you for taking the lead on the Johnson. My view is that the credibility of the Wiki site would be enhanced by only allowing invited members to post messages. I am quite ignorant on the technical aspects of the Wiki but it would be good if outsiders could view some of the information but only become members by invitation. I like the idea of prospective students being able to have guest profiles. Also -given a number of you are about to complete the course has any thought been given to setting up a new page on the Wiki for the senior students and graduates to act as mentors for new students in the program? Do you find this valuable?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with other wiki members. Currently, as far as I know, we would be upgrading the website by invitation only. However, due to the limitation of the wiki, we can't allow visitors to view some of the information only as it is a feature to be upgraded by the wiki administrator. So hopefully, such feature will be made available for us.

In regards to the graduate to be acting as mentors, I had already created a page for volunteers to be mentors. Within that categories, I had also included a page for adminstrators to input their contact details. It is under "Contacts" weblink. Let me know if any one of you needed assistance in updating your contacrs profile.
